The misconception about sagging breasts

Sagging breasts are caused by gravity pulling the breast tissue downward. However, when you sleep on your back, gravity pushes the breast tissue against your chest instead of pulling it toward your toes as it does when standing.

We’re all familiar with scientific, nutritional, or health-related studies that sometimes contradict themselves – one conclusion today might be completely overturned tomorrow. The same goes for the debates surrounding bras and going braless. People once believed certain things until a scientist came along and proved the opposite.

For example, it was widely believed that wearing a bra prevents breast sagging. However, after a 15-year study involving 330 women aged 18 to 35, Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon from the University of Besançon in France concluded that frequent bra use actually accelerates sagging, primarily due to its impact on the ligaments.

Similarly, some followed the example of the iconic Marilyn Monroe, who reportedly wore a bra to bed every night to prevent sagging. However, Dr. Seth Rankin, founder of London Doctors Clinic, argued otherwise: Sagging is caused by gravity pulling the breasts downward, but when you sleep on your back, gravity pushes the breast tissue against your chest, not toward your toes like when standing. Therefore, wearing a bra to bed to prevent sagging is an unnecessary effort.
